Question about jackets

Guys, I bought my first motorcycle and plan to start riding it after I take a riders course. I have a really nice badass looking leather jacket but it's not designed to have any extra padding for riding. Is there anything I could wear underneath the leather jacket to add padding? Like a riding shirt?

Would I be better off getting a $200ish mesh riding jacket with padding or just use my leather jacket without padding? I'm not worried about having to spend money, I'd just rather not have to spend +$400 plus on a new leather jacket with padding.
