Any riders with large gauges in their ears?

Since my last post about helmets, I've been trying on a few but I keep running into an issue with my ears. The gauges aren't huge by any means, they're pretty small compared to some people's, but the lip of the flare keeps getting caught on the helmets when I'm taking them off and it's really painful. A few times it's pulled out the gauge completely when it catches and my lobe flips upside down when taking the helmet off. I need to get a nice fitting helmet, but how do you guys deal with this? I've found that if I 'pull' the helmet to one side, wiggle up, then repeat with the other I can get them over my lobes, but with some of the tighter fitting helmets with low chin padding it's super difficult. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!
